Griffin started shaping at the age of 15 in his parents’ backyard in Long Beach, CA. His desire to make a career out of his shaping hobby led him to get a job at a local glass shop in Costa Mesa, CA. It was here that he learned the complete surfboard building process and met his mentor Bruce Jones.
Bruce took Griffin under his wing at a young age and would spend several years working closely. They eventually moved their operation and began working together out of the Waterman’s Guild in Santa Ana, CA. While working there, he continued to hone his craft and began shaping for various surfboard companies in Orange County.
Today, he’s shaped over 7,000 surfboards and continues to work out of his shaping bay at Waterman’s Guild—using the skills of his legendary mentor each day.
